Why Build This?

In the Gaza Strip, access to clean water has become one of the most urgent and uncertain parts of daily life—especially for children. What was once a basic, invisible routine has turned into a constant concern that shapes how families live, plan, and survive.
For many children, the day begins with thirst. Not out of habit, but out of necessity. Water is no longer something that is readily available at any moment; it is rationed carefully, often in small amounts meant to last an entire day. A single container may need to serve multiple purposes—drinking, cooking, and basic hygiene—forcing families to make difficult decisions about how each drop is used.
This scarcity is not just about quantity, but also about safety. Much of the available water is unreliable or contaminated, meaning that even when children are able to drink, there is often an underlying risk. Illnesses related to unsafe water become part of everyday life, affecting energy, focus, and long-term health. For a child trying to learn, grow, and maintain a sense of normalcy, this creates a constant physical and mental burden.
Parents carry the weight of these conditions, doing everything they can to protect their children while navigating a system that no longer functions as it should. Water infrastructure has been severely damaged, and access depends on inconsistent supply, external aid, or costly alternatives that many families cannot sustain. The result is a daily cycle of uncertainty—waiting, conserving, and adapting to whatever is available.
Over time, this uncertainty becomes normalized. Children grow up understanding limits instead of abundance, learning to question whether something as essential as water will be there when they need it. This shift has lasting effects, not only on health, but on how security and stability are experienced at a fundamental level.
AERIS is designed in response to this reality. Instead of relying on centralized infrastructure that can fail or be disrupted, it provides a decentralized solution that operates independently at the household level. By capturing moisture from the air and converting it into safe, drinkable water, AERIS creates a consistent source that does not depend on damaged systems or external delivery.
This approach reframes access to water from something uncertain to something reliable. For children, that reliability is critical. It means being able to drink without hesitation, to go through a day without the physical strain of dehydration, and to experience a small but meaningful sense of stability in an otherwise unstable environment.
